Paris Saint-Germain never usually pass up the opportunity to make themselves the focus of attention in European football but on Tuesday they opted for a low-key launch of their 2017-18 home kit.

It is easy to see why.

Les Parisiens will be sporting a navy blue number next season but one boasting burgundy sleeves -- a departure from their usual blue, white and red colour scheme and interpreted by some as a nod towards the capital club's Qatari owners -- and red chevrons down the middle.

The shirt features a red, white and blue band and the word Paris has been included at the back of the neck.

Having recently committed his future to PSG until at least 2020, star striker Edinson Cavani praised the new look and "cannot wait to wear it" in front of fans at Parc des Princes.

"The launch of the new home jersey is always an important moment for a club," the Uruguay international told the club's official website. "The jersey is very important for the players and supporters because it showcases our identity, especially at Parc des Princes, PSG's historic home."

"I cannot wait to wear this new jersey on the playing field, to keep writing Rouge et Bleu history and continue to fulfil the club's big ambitions next season."

Despite Cavani's positivity about the new shirt, many fans disagree and feel that it is the latest in a growing line of let-downs from long-standing kit manufacturer Nike.

It has been branded a "monstrosity" and "disgusting," while another suggested it could be suitable "punishment" if PSG are found guilty of aiding Angel Di Maria and Javier Pastore in the recent tax probe.

Surely it's not so bad that it could put off any potential big-money signings moving to the Parc des Princes this summer -- could it?
